Solid. First thing you notice is the weight of the box. These grills are built to last compared to the tinfoil garbage in front of home depot. Assembly was dead easy if you know how to turn a screwdriver. Hooks right up to a half inch iron gas line.
I had an old Vermont castings grill that I bought at home depot 20 years ago. It stood the test of time, but the main supports were finally rusting out (I never once covered this thing, either), so it's time to treat ourselves and get a new grille.The gauge of the steel on this Weber just isn't very thick, certainly not like my Vermont. If I get 10 years out of this I'll be happy, but I did buy a cover to help it survive a little longer.I assembled it myself, and props to Weber for having excellent instructions. The ignitor works flawlessly and lights up in just a couple of seconds. I was hoping the interior grate size was the same as my Vermont, as the grates that I had in the Vermont were much more heavy duty than these, but so far in the few things I've made, they work ok.Look, I get it, companies are strapped as material prices surge, and I imagine if I spent $1k on a grill, I'd get thicker material.
The Weber grill came with good instructions and went together in about 1.5 hours. The grill is very nice and only needed one part to hook up to my existing gas line. It looks great and I think it will cook wonderful meals for many years.
I went to all the Home Depots and Lowe's in my area and nobody had the natural gas models, only LP. Ordered off Amazon and it was at my front door the next day. I had a Genesis previously that lasted about 10 years but I never used the side stove or all the burners so I went with the Spirit which is no nonsense, 3 burners, HOT and even heat distribution. Took one star off because the back is not enclosed enough to keep my dogs from going after the grease tray, I have to push it up against the house when not in use. Took me about an hour to assemble, but when you see all that goes into building one of these the price is justified. Assembly directions are well thought out. I'm convinced that the assembly process is part of the bonding needed with your new companion and a rite of passage to earn the right to be a grill master. Happy with my purchase.
